In HELP WITH REPAIRS
I Hope you don’t feel I’m abusing my privilege of looking after the BRA website but I have a real problem. My 914 has a cracked head, pretty confident with the diagnosis but cannot tell which head it is. I would like to find either a 914 or a 912Ul that is either broken or for sale. The 80hp 912 with the black tops share the same Rotax heads as the 914. Any help would be greatly appreciated Regards Steve 07841 870568

I was recently lucky enough to witness an extraordinary fault on a beautifully maintained MTO Sport. The aircraft lined up to depart the field and started to prerotate, as so many of us are aware this is often the point at which we realise we are not going home yet. On investigation by a qualified engineer and through a process of elimination, it was discovered that that airline that feeds the belt tension cylinder appeared to be blocked. On further examination the engineer established that where the tube was cable tied around under the gearbox that the two (corners) that it went around had clearly got flattened. It would seem as though the tube when it gets hot was softening and then when cooling was remembering its flat state rather than returning to its round state, thus reducing the airflow to the cylinder and preventing the pulley from becoming tensioned enough. Simple fix too but incredibly difficult to track the fault. There is one to rule out when having prerotator issues. Having seen this I thought I would check mine, it would seem that after 1000 hours mine was actual fine, when undoing all the cable ties though and freeing up both the tubing and the wires, I found that my sensor cable was quite badly chafed and needed protecting before clipping back.

Of late a few of us have gone through changes on our aircraft that have affected our aircrafts Weight and Balance and required a change of permit. Most recently we have had an MTO Sport that was upgraded from a 912 to a 914 and we have a Calidus that has also had an upgrade from a 912 to a 914. To cut a long story short, the MTO Sport paperwork was submitted by an LAA engineer and the weight and balance was carried out by professionals. https://www.loadmasters.co.uk/physical-weighing-services/ The Calidus was upgraded by a very well respected engineer in our community who took another route and had problems getting the weight and balance sorted. This has held up the permit update and of course meant that the pilot or pilots have been unable to use their aircraft for quite a long period. I am posting this as it should not have happened and with the loadmasters link above being a tried and tested way forward, hopefully this will prevent delays like this in the future. I think it would be great if we shared a bit about the aircraft we fly, our experiences with it, good or bad and the way it has been maintained.

Having had a little more than a bad experience with the Ivoprop, I was wondering if we could gather some thoughts and comments about this prop and it’s future.
