This is a new one for us, and we don’t yet have all the details. But, Llanbedr airfield in Wales have agreed to let us camp there. They should have their cafe up and running by then, and they have fuel, so it’s an ideal base for us to fly around the hills and valleys of Wales. Hopefully we’ll get to fly over Snowdon too! Allegedly there are 3 pubs a brisk 15 minutes walk from the airfield, so that’s evening food and drink sorted. We’ll confirm prices later, but if you‘re interested, please RSVP in the events section.

For the fith year running we’re back at Perranporth. The airfield have always looked after us, letting us camp on-site and charging very little. Last year was only £15 per gyro for the weekend! I’m waiting to see if they’re holding this price this year. There’s a shower and toilet we can use. They also have fuel on site. Bodmin also have fuel. You can pay for the fuel by card, but it’d be an idea to bring £15 cash for the weekend fee. The idea is to fly in on the Friday. Fly around the coast Saturday. Fly home on the Sunday. You don’t have to arrive on the Friday, so please feel free to come on Saturday if you wish. And you can choose to do your own thing Saturday too if the costal flight isn’t your thing. Be aware Perranporth have parachutes when it’s open, so listen to the radio on approach and do talk to them. The other thing is to talk to Newquay as soon as you can after getting in to Cornwall. They have fairly big passenger jets flying in and out, and their approach path covers pretty much the whole width of Cornwall and out to see. There’s no restrictions from them except what you’d find around any ATZ, but they do want to talk to you in order to keep you and the commercial aircraft safe. They’re there to help. Friday night and Saturday night we tend to get a taxi into Perranporth village and have food and a beer in one of the beach pubs. If any newbies feel a little daunted about the distance etc, don’t be! You can contact me and I’ll try and answer any questions you have. There’s the possibility of meeting up on route too. It’s a fun experience and a good chance to stretch your wings erm rotors and learn. Please RSVP on the events page so we can get an idea of numbers. See the updates further down. Cheers, Skinny Chris
